| Updating a previous item, Scott Reynolds, of PewterReport.com, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers FB B.J. Askew signed a five-year deal worth $7.6 million. Askew received a $1 million signing bonus and a $1 million roster bonus. He will receive $605,000 in base salary in 2008. |

| Dolphins | Williams expected Parcells to release him |
| Harvey Fialkov, of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins RB Ricky Williams said he was surprised vice president of football operations Bill Parcells didn't cut him when he took over the team in December. Williams said, "(Parcells) was describing the kind of player he wanted. Honestly, I had doubts if I was going to be that type of player." Williams said Parcells called him into his office after the team meeting and told him he was keeping him on the team. Williams added, "I was expecting him not to talk to me at all. I was expecting to get a letter in the mail saying I was going to be a free agent." |

| Buccaneers | Team signs Askew to contract extension |
| KFFL has learned a league source told Scout.com the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed FB B.J. Askew to a four-year contract extension. The extension, which was added to his current contract, makes his new deal a five-year deal, worth $8.6 million. Askew will receive $2.2 million in guaranteed money, including a $2 million signing bonus. The contract includes $1 million in performance and Pro Bowl incentives.

| David White, of SFGate.com, reports Oakland Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha was absent at organized team activities because he has not signed his exclusive franchise tag offer and is not under contract. Head coach Lane Kiffin said Asomugha will attend the mandatory minicamp June 3-5.

| Scott Brown, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers OT Marvel Smith is in the final year of his contract. It is unknown if the Steelers are negotiating with Smith about an extension but the team has a history of not re-signing veterans whose best days may be behind them. However, the team may make an exception with Smith because he plays left tackle, which is a critical position in the offense.
