Games of the Week

Miami(10-5) @ New York Jets (9-6)

Miami QB Chad Pennington vs. Jets Secondary
Pennington has been the big difference this year for the Dolphins. He looks so comfortable in this Miami offense, and continues to protect the football, make good decisions and wins football games. Despite the brutal cold weather conditions last week versus Kansas City, Pennington was 26 of 34 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. He continues to see the field very well, making good reads and is distributing the ball all over the field. Pennington is the leader of this offense, and has led this team to winning eight of it’s last nine games.

He is a smart football player who plays to his strengths and does a great job of protecting the football and taking what the defense gives him. The Jets secondary continues to struggle this season. They are ranked 29th in the NFL in pass defense giving up 237.3 yards per game. Look for a big day from Pennington and for the Dolphins to clinch an AFC East title.

Jaguars (5-10) @ Baltimore (10-5)

The Jaguars DT John Henderson and Rob Meier against Ravens Guards Chris Chester and Ben Grubbs
The Ravens rushing attack has put them in a playoff position. Grubbs and Chester are the two keys to their inside zone game. These two maulers are very strong and have the ability to change the line of scrimmage as well as have enough athletic ability to get to LBs and spring bigger runs.

Henderson and Meier Have had a long season. They have both been nicked up all season. They will have their hands full this week. The Ravens running attack is nasty and it will take a monster effort from these two guys to slow down the pounding big back McClain. The Jags two big men must play four quarters of physical football in order to have a chance.

Chicago (9-6) @ Houston (7-8)

Bears RB Matt Forte against Texans MLB DeMeco Ryans
The Bears are still in the hunt for a playoff spot, due in large part to their rookie back Matt Forte. He has made this team a December football team. He is a threat inside with his power. He has turned out to be an effective receiver out of the backfield. He is the most valuable player on their team. He could be the NFC Rookie of the year.

The Texans had a let down last week. Ryans is the catalyst of the defense. This team is preparing to take the next step in 09. This week is a home game and they want to end on a good note. Ryans will have his hands full with Forte and the Bears OL.

NY Giants ( 12-3) @ Minnesota (9-6)

Giants DE Mathias Kiwanuka against Vikings LT Bryant Mckinnie
The Giants have nothing to play for this week but still expect Kiwanuka to see plenty of game time. He has been very steady all season. The Giants DE is steady in both defending runs at the point, as well as rushing the passer. He has moved to DE from LB this year. It is a position that he is obviously more comfortable playing.

Vikings LT Mount McKinnie has all the physical tools to be a Pro Bowler. He has been inconsistent at times. He has great size, strength, and footwork to become dominant but he still sometimes gets beat in pass pro. He is not patient at times and will put himself in bad positions. For the Vikings to get in the Playoffs he will need to be consistent vs. a dominating defense.

Oakland ( 4-11) @ Tampa Bay (9-6)

Raiders KR Johnny Lee Higgins against Buccaneers coverage teams
The Raiders Johnny Lee Higgins has made some very big returns this year. He has been a bright spot of an otherwise dysfunctional team. Higgins has the ability to change the momentum and flow of the game. He is the one facet of the Raiders that if you can keep him quiet, the rest of the team may just go away.

The Bucs are still in the hunt. They need help from the Eagles. Most importantly they need to take care of themselves. If they can control the Raiders returner they should be in position to root for help.
